Hamilton Community Foundation is Ontario’s first Community Foundation and has been working to drive positive change in Hamilton since 1954. We do this by helping people give in a way that has meaning to them and impact in the community, providing grants and financing to charitable organizations and initiatives and bringing people together to address priority issues that affect Hamiltonians. The Foundation has assets of some $200 million and last year HCF gave 893 grants to 318 charities, totalling $11.5 million. We also provided loans of $7.1 million to charities and non-profits across Hamilton. Terry Cooke is President and CEO of Hamilton Community Foundation which has played a leading role in mobilizing the community to address issues like increasing access to post-secondary education, strengthening neighbourhoods and reducing poverty. Terry’s career includes leadership positions in the private, public and non-profit sectors. He served as Chairman of the Region of Hamilton-Wentworth from 1994 to 2000. Terry is a past Chair of the Canadian Urban Institute and has served on the board of Community Foundations of Canada as well as a number of corporate organizations. In recognition of his community service, Terry has been a Paul Harris Fellow and a two-time recipient of the Queen’s Jubilee Medal. Terry was inducted into the Hamilton Gallery of Distinction in 2016.
