Dr. Matthew Boland

Dr. Matthew Boland is an Assistant Professor of Accounting at Saint Mary’s University. Though a professor in the Accounting department, Dr. Boland holds a PhD in Finance that provides an interdisciplinary lens through which he conducts research at the intersection of accounting, finance, and political economy. Dr. Boland’s most recent publication titled, Local soldier fatalities and war profiteers: New tests of the political cost hypothesis, was published in the prestigious Journal of Accounting and Economics. His research program is currently funded by two national Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council grants for projects that seek to understand government procurement spending and how corporate greenwashing has changed through time. Sophisticated data analysis, including machine learning, is used in his research and Dr. Boland works with, and supervises, students in the M.Sc. in Computing and Data Analytics program at Saint Mary’s.
