Managing Partner, grant thornton limited - Consumer Insolvency

Robert is the Managing Partner of Grant Thornton Limited’s Consumer Insolvency practice across Canada.

Rob has worked in the insolvency industry for over 25 years, splitting his time between helping individuals with overwhelming debt get a financial fresh start and helping companies from diverse industries—ranging from manufacturing and retail to fishing and forestry—overcome their financial challenges.  Robert also spent 10 years in lead finance and accounting roles with a publicly traded company and an international firm of consulting engineers.

Robert has a Bachelor of Commerce from Saint Mary’s University, is a Chartered Professional Accountant, a Chartered Insolvency and Restructuring Professional, a Licensed Insolvency Trustee and is a member of the Insolvency Institute of Canada.  He has served as President of the Nova Scotia Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Professionals, President of the Atlantic Chapter of the Risk Management Association and board member of the Canadian Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Professionals.

In 2018, Rob was awarded a Fellowship by the Canadian Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Professionals for his commitment to the Association and the insolvency profession.

Rob is also passionate about helping his community. He is a board member and treasurer of the Strongest Families Institute, which helps families with children experiencing mental illness and behavioural issues.  He is past chair of the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia after having volunteered in several other roles.
